In one of the most interesting and trendy exhibition spaces of Brussels today, A.L.I.C.E. Gallery, is now the work exhibited of Sozyone Gonzalez. An artist with clearly his roots in street art. In particular his large scale works on canvas speak to the imagination. It’s the mixture of bright colors with the aggressive theme that causes a disturbing friction. Both elements are further intensified by the black backgrounds. The representation of violence in a rather decorative way may be interpreted as a criticism on contemporary society and certainly evokes on several levels associations with Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece A Clockwork Orange. The reminiscent of the surrealist ‘automatic drawing’ style of painting adds another possible layer of subconscious stimulus…
