The first Dutch festival entirely dedicated to the animated GIF took place last weekend at the Amsterdam Volkshotel. In a sense a kind of film festival in which the entries have been reduced to just a few frames, endlessly repeating, evoking a trance state for the visitors. And so appealing to the desire for rhythmic ritual, repetitive hypnosis, to ephemeral ecstasy. Showing great works by Zack Dougherty, Julien Douvier, DarkAngelØne, Zolloc, Erdal Inci and many more… Curated by Daniel Samama and Vincent Seeber the GIF Weekender Festival offered – in addition to a sleek exhibition of splendid GIFS – presentations by The Hmm, an Emoji workshop by TEARS OF JOY and more.
